About
As a board-certified psychiatrist and forensic psychiatrist with more than two decades of experience in correctional psychiatry, forensic evaluation, emergency psychiatry, and telepsychiatry, I believe my background aligns strongly with the clinical and forensic expertise required for this role.
Throughout my career, I have held leadership and clinical positions within large public behavioral health systems, correctional settings, academic institutions, and private forensic practice. I currently serve as President of Amanda Ruiz, MD, Inc., where I provide forensic psychiatric consultation to attorneys, universities, and corporations. My work has included competency evaluations, psychiatric consultation, correctional mental health oversight, and expert forensic analysis.
My prior telepsychiatry experience includes serving as a Staff Psychiatrist for the California Department of State Hospitals at Coalinga, a forensic psychiatric hospital, where I delivered psychiatric services remotely to a high-acuity forensic population. In addition, my years with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation provided extensive experience treating justice-involved individuals with complex psychiatric and behavioral conditions.
I have also served in executive leadership positions with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, including Acting Senior Deputy Director of the Intensive Care Services Division and Medical Director for Countywide Resource Management. These roles strengthened my ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary systems while maintaining high clinical and ethical standards.
In addition to my clinical work, I am fluent in both English and Spanish and have contributed to academic publications and correctional mental health guidelines, including the Manual of Forms and Guidelines for Correctional Mental Health published by American Psychiatric Publishing.
I am particularly drawn to telepsychiatry because of its ability to improve access to specialized forensic psychiatric care while maintaining flexibility, efficiency, and continuity of treatment. I am comfortable working independently in remote settings and am experienced with documentation, risk assessment, and testimony preparation when needed.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my forensic and telepsychiatry experience could support your organization’s mission and patient population. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to speaking with you further.
